Chocolate, Cupcakes and….Dehydrators?

My birthday weekend has come and gone.  I ate some good food, opened gifts and had quality family time.  Oh!  I even managed to see a movie–The Amazing Spiderman.  It was…ok.  Lots of action, some suspense and no girly, mushy, lovey, dovey romance junk, so that’s good.  I even got to indulge in my favorite concrete creation of vanilla custard, Oreo, brownies and cherry juice (courtesy of my hubby’s genius) at Andy’s.

As for the gifts, here’s a quick little roundup of some fun things I got…

A dehydrator!!!!  We’re getting into a raw food diet in our household and upon further research, I’ve discovered dehydrators are used in a LOT of recipes.  Unfortunately, this one gets a little too hot to be considered “raw” so I’m getting another new one!  (and yes, I do see the irony in posting about our new raw diet on my dessert blog).  Oh and a new cookie spatula!  Very exciting since mine went missing a couple months ago.  Yes, these are the things I get excited about.

Fun little mug and some Russell Stover raspberry cheesecake filled chocolates…yum.

Ice cream books!!  I am so excited about these.  I’ve had a huge urge to make my own ice cream the past couple of months and cannot WAIT to try out some of these recipes.

Technically not food but how could I not share these with a name like Pink Sugar?  This is my favorite perfume/body wash/lotion ever.  I get compliments on it every time.

And thanks to my in-laws and parents, I’ll be purchasing a bigger, badder food processor in the near future so no picture of that yet, but soon, very soon.

It was truly a great weekend and I wish I could do it all over again….every weekend!  Haha.  I’m blessed to have such great family and friends to celebrate with and thankful for all the love they showed me!

Ice Cream Goodies

The days have been getting noticeably warmer lately…as in it feels like July and it’s only May kind of warmer.  And just about every day around 2:30 in the afternoon I start craving ice cream.  Ugh.  I then have to play referee between Good, Healthy, Angelic Sarah and Dessert Loving, Devil Sarah (umm, yeah that’s what it feels like!).  Thankfully, most days I am able to rationalize myself out of NOT eating Andy’s Frozen Custard for dinner.  And can I just say that is quite the feat when they are less than half a mile from your house?!  Don’t think I haven’t thought “hey, I’ll just walk there and that totally justifies eating it!”  Because I have.  Oh, I have.

So ice cream remains a treat, like it should.  And because I’ve got ice cream on the brain, I looked up some fun ice cream recipes online and wanted to share with you all.  Tell me these don’t get you drooling?!?

First, Key Lime Pie Ice Cream from yours truly.  I loooooove this stuff.  It totally transports me to Florida and white sandy beaches.  Ahhhhhh.

This recipe is from kevinandamanda.com and it’s for Homemade Ice Cream…WITHOUT an ice cream maker.  How brilliant is this??  Love how they do four different variations with the same ice cream base.

Next up are these Confetti Ice Cream Pops from Country Living.  I love that you don’t have to have a special ice cream popsicle mold…just use small paper cups!  Brilliant.

While not quite ice cream per se, an ice box cake is a frozen treat that I have been wanting to try FOREVER.  And this recipe for a No-Bake Strawberry Icebox Cake has inspired me to finally do it!  It’s just so pretty.

Chocolate Covered Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich.  Want.  Now.

Mint and chocolate are one of my weaknesses which makes this Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cake oh so very tempting to me.  I think if I try it, I’ll use a boxed Devil’s Food Cake mix, just to save some precious time.

And last, but certainly not least, Almond Milk Ice Cream.  Jeremy and I have cut dairy from our everyday diet and I have been dying to try a recipe for almond milk ice cream.  This one looks good and I think I’ll try making it in my ice cream machine after mixing all the ingredients together and letting them chill.  I’ll definitely post my results on here!

My Favorite Season

I know everyone is getting really excited about the colder temps and winter-like weather that is happening right now, but we have PLENTY of fall left and I’m going to savor every last minute of it.  Here are a few things I love at this time of the year (and some ah-mazing pumpkin recipes).

Fall Leaves.  Can’t get enough of the beautiful colors.  And it’s even better this year since this is the first fall in our new house and we have two gorgeous trees in our front yard. (and no, these are not our trees!  I wish!)

Pumpkin Monkey Bread.  I do believe I could eat this EVERY SINGLE morning for breakfast.  I won’t!  But I could.

Fall-Scented Candles.   According to this blog, Bath and Body Works has a Bakeshop candle collection.  Sad to say I haven’t been to the mall in so long, I have no idea if this is true or not!  Shopping trip!

Andy’s Frozen Custard Pumpkin Pie Concrete.  I think this is my favorite concrete concoction from Andy’s (besides my husband’s brilliant combination of cherry juice, Oreos and brownie mmmmm).  Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a good photo which I suppose means one thing:  I’ll have to go get a Pumpkin Pie Concrete and take my own photo.  The things I do…

Lovely Fall Dessert Tables.  I so wish I had been invited to this party.

Grown-Up Pumpkin Pie Milkshake.  Bourbon. Pumpkin Pie. Milkshake. ‘Nuff said.

Comfy Cupcake Sweatshirts.  This is going on my Christmas list.

Pumpkin S’mores.  Oh my.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!  Think I might spend my Saturday raking up all those beautiful fall leaves!  😉
