Another year, another party and this one seemed like it came around fast! Avery turned the big SIX and her chosen theme was mermaid! Luckily the weather was great so we were able to have fun outside and inside–here are a few pics of the big day!
The birthday girl. 🙂
The kids…serious and silly!
Of course the cake table! I went pretty basic this year with stuff that didn’t have to be made…we had Pirate’s Gold (Rolos), Saltwater Taffy, Fish Food (Goldfish pretzels) and Clamshell Cookies (vanilla wafers with buttercream and a sixlet for the “pearl”). I was super happy with how it all turned out!
Birthday girl again!
Here are the links for all Avery’s parties thus far. Enjoy!
There was no wondering what the theme would be this year for Eli’s 3rd birthday party–CARS! He is obsessed, particularly with the Cars cars…Lightening McQueen, Bobby Swift…the whole gang. But I wasn’t really down with having a Cars birthday party or even Hotwheels–not my style at all. But after a little Pinterest time, I stumbled across the vintage race car theme and LOVED it.
I went simple (at least for me) and did a couple of banners for decor, car cake, chocolate dipped pretzel rods that were “dip sticks” and mini chocolate doughnuts that were our “spare tires”. I actually loved how this one turned out and I’m finding that simple can be a lot better sometimes!
Here are some pics from the day…

And last but not least the birthday boy playing lawn games with his cousins. This must have been a good shot. 😉

We recently celebrated Avery’s 5th birthday party and I wanted to share a few pics of the festivities. I went super simple this year especially where the dessert table was concerned. I ended up doing Sixlets in her party colors, white chocolate unicorn pops and a unicorn cake. Time and budget were limited this year but it forced me to keep things simple which was a GOOD thing. 🙂
Here are a few pics! And if you’re interested in her previous parties, I have links to all of them at the end of the post!
Birthday Girl! 🙂
More table pics.
Unicorns taking a nap?? Or maybe telling secrets… 🙂

Believe it or not, I have ANOTHER kid…who I’ve never blogged about. 😀 Until now! I’m still in the process of digging up his first birthday pics but in the meantime we’re just gonna skip ahead to his SECOND birthday.
We did an alphabet theme for this one because the child knew his alphabet forwards and backwards way before he turned two. And boy themes are TOUGH…farm animals, cars, jungle, cartoon/tv shows…ugh. Not my style so much but the alphabet theme turned out cute! Here are a few pics from our fun day…
It was a fun party with beautiful weather and awesome friends! And a certain two year old ate WAY too many chocolate letters off of the chocolate chip cookie bars while mom wasn’t looking but hey, it was his birthday and c’mon chocolate is just GOOD. 😉 We love you E!
Since birthday parties are rolling around again, I thought I’d finally get around to posting LAST year’s birthday party pictures. I’m so on top of it! Avery decided on a Kitty Cat theme which was super fun to come up with all the decor and treats for. All the little desserts were made by me except the AWESOME cat cake. Goodies included chocolate cherry mice, feline faces, cat claws, meow mix and hair balls!
I can’t believe I’m already writing a Fourth of July blog post! This last couple of months have flown with my daughter turning two and having a baby…suffice it to say I’ve baked nothin’ in the last few weeks and don’t have any super-fabulous, totally-original July 4th recipe to share with you BUT I do have some past inspiration from my blog and others that are patriotic AND delicious! So here are 10 gorgeous red, white and blue desserts that you can feel proud serving this Fourth of July holiday! Enjoy!
I almost can’t believe that I’m already posting about my daughter’s SECOND birthday party! It seems like just yesterday I was posting about her Rainbow Sprinkles & Confetti FIRST Birthday Party! This year I had a much easier time coming up with a theme because her tastes and likes are a little more formed now at the age of 2. 😉 And without a doubt one of her most favorite things in the whole wide world is ICE CREAM! So it was kind of a no-brainer to do an ice cream shoppe themed birthday party!
There were so many great ideas for an ice cream theme party on Pinterest and I had about 8 or 9 different ice cream themed desserts I was going to do for her dessert table, but in the end I realized my limit (thank God!) and just did two cute little treats along with an ice cream sundae bar and birthday cake. It was more than enough for everybody!
Donut hole “melting ice cream cones”!
White chocolate dipped, sprinkle ice cream cone chocolate cookies. Yummy!
We also had an ice cream cone pinata, ice cream cone garland and her very own ice cream shoppe stand! I tried to keep it as simple as possible and was still really happy with how things turned out. It was so much fun and she STILL sings happy birthday to herself almost every other day! Haha!
The gorgeous cake!
Blowing out the candles!
Beautiful birthday girl….happy SECOND birthday Avery Gwen! We love you SO MUCH!
One more last minute St. Patrick’s Day idea–Leprechaun Hat S’mores! Courtesy of The Cake Blog, this treat doesn’t get any easier or yummier. I mean seriously, how cute is this?! Cookies and marshmallows?? I am SO there! Thanks to The Cake Blog for this ingenious idea–we love it! Get all the details on how to do it yourself here!
I started pinning things for Valentine’s Day on Pinterest and couldn’t stop. Thus, this blog post. I knew there was no way I was going to be able to make everything I was pinning so I decided to just put them all into one massive blog post and let you decide what to make! In my opinion, anything pink, red, strawberry, raspberry, cherry or chocolate says Valentine’s Day! And that’s pretty much what you’ll find in this post. Lots of pretty, delicious, Valentine’s Day-perfect treats and ideas! How to choose?! I hate making decisions. Especially when it comes to dessert. They all look amazing.
You guys, seriously. If this video doesn’t make you fall in love with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams even MORE and practically run to the store to gladly fork over the $10+ for a pint, I don’t know what will.
A few weeks ago I was asked to do a dessert table for a little boy’s firetruck/firehouse birthday party. Of course I said yes! It sounded like so much fun. But then I realized…what kind of desserts do I do for a firetruck theme?! I have done plenty of dessert tables for weddings, baby showers and bridal showers but a boy’s firetruck birthday party? Ummm, no.
I immediately turned to Google for ideas and was able to come up with some fun stuff! I honestly am not a big decorator/detail person when it comes to desserts. I like to make stuff that tastes amazing and just looks good. Fondant and decorated sugar cookies have never been my thing. So it was challenging to find desserts that I could do that didn’t require crazy decorating skills. But I came up with a great spread! If I do say so myself.
We had Twizzlers to represent a firehose, fire hydrant sugar cookies, “flaming” yellow and red swirled marshmallows, red and yellow Jelly Belly’s and of course, cupcakes! I was SO happy with how everything turned out and so was the client (which of course is the MOST important thing). It was a fun challenge and more importantly everything was delicious!
Obsessed with cupcakes? Who isn’t?! They are cute. So cute, that they are put on pretty much anything. Seriously…you could put a picture of a cupcake on a cow patty and it would be cute. While no one will be capitalizing on cupcake cow patties anytime soon, they sure are coming up with lots of other products to keep the sweet trend going. Check out these fun items…
I really enjoy finding recipes from other blogs to share with you guys. The only problem is I find so many that it’s hard to choose which ones to include without the post being incredibly long! So I managed to narrow things down to TEN pumpkin recipes. All look drool-worthy and absolutely freakin’ delicious. See if there is one you like and make it! If you do, please tell me about it in the comments…I truly would love to know what you end up making and loving!
Happy July 4th! How are you celebrating today? We have zero plans today (except staying inside in the air conditioning!) and then we’re heading to a get-together our church is putting on with bbq, games for kids and of course, fireworks! I will say fireworks are making me extremely nervous this year with the dry conditions and potential for fire but I’m just gonna try to relax and not freak out and tackle every little kid I see with a sparkler too near to grass. Hopefully I’ve done enough preaching to all my friends and family on Facebook. I’m sure they just loooooove me and my paranoid ways right now. Oh well!
Anyway, onto a more pleasant topic: CAKE. I love cake…cheesecake, ice cream cake, cake-cake, cupcakes, cheesecake-cakes…you get the point. And these patriotic cakes are perfect for July 4th, whether you’re celebrating today or this weekend.
And cookies. And cake. And brownies. And…well, you get the idea. Sometimes dad’s even like to get in the kitchen and show-off their baking skills! If your dad falls into any of these categories, may I suggest some of the following gifts and ideas, perfect for Father’s Day?
I think every dessert-loving dad should own this shirt. Ok, scratch that–every REAL MAN should own this shirt.
So, the word on the street is that pudding (yes, pudding) is going to replace cupcakes as the next big dessert trend. Now in the past, predictor types have also foreseen pie, whoopie pies and macaroons dethroning the almighty cupcake but so far…hasn’t happened. This article mentions a couple of new pudding restaurants that have popped up in New York where alot of trends start.
Don’t get me wrong I do love pudding, ESPECIALLY totally-from-scratch butterscotch pudding, but I really can’t imagine saying to my girlfriend during girl’s night out, “Hey! Let’s go get some pudding!” I mean, it’s going to either be ice cream (if we want something cold) or a cupcake. And I really don’t see mom ordering a big ‘ole bowl of chocolate pudding for little Mary Sue’s birthday party anytime soon.
But hey, what do I know? Do you think it could be the next big thing? Should cupcake shops start diversifying now and slap pudding on their menus?? Something to think about…
Ok who hasn’t at least once dipped their fries from their favorite fast food joint into some soft-serve ice cream?? That’s right, no one! My favorite part about going to Wendy’s when I was a kid was dipping those hot, salty, crisp french fries into a cold, chocolate Frosty…no wonder I was a fat kid! I also loved dipping my chicken nuggets from McDonald’s into honey–it’s good people, trust me! Needless to say I got a total kick out of this food writer’s experimentation with some shall we say, unique dessert creations at McDonald’s. What is YOUR favorite dessert mash-up from a fast food joint??
I love dessert tables. From the beautiful colors, creativity, attention to detail and mouth-watering sweets, I am truly inspired whenever I see them. These Valentine’s Day themed tables are so unbelievably beautiful…I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
